Yooka-Laylee and Helping the Incompetent

As a quick addendum to my previous post, I got Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair for free from the Epic Games launcher, so I’ve been playing it a bit. I played through a bit of the previous game, which was a Banjo-Kazooie-inspired 3D platformer, and had some fun until I drifted, as I often do with video games.

This one is more in the vein of Donkey Kong Country, and a 2.5D platformer is something I have more nostalgia for. Even though I am terrible at platformers, I do enjoy a jump around for a bit, and this one has some top jumping. I could do with more moves, but that’s more being spoiled by other ones.

And while it is just as frustrating for the incompetent gamer as any traditional platformer, it does have a great checkpoint system that allows you to skip parts of the level you’re finding difficult, which is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for with Hollow Knight. More of this sort of thing please.
