Read to end 1.1.4. Thoughts:
- This must be much easier to read if you actually know the history, and don’t need the footnotes
- I have not missed books with explanatory footnotes
- Reading the footnotes might not even be necessary in most of these classic books, but I am unable to skip them
- This must be much easier to read if you actually speak French
- Despite the obstacles it’s not so difficult, I know who these characters are already from how they speak and are described, which is Proper Writing
- I think even if I didn’t know a few characters from The Great Comet, I’d be fine
- (I definitely had a notion that this book would be Difficult, and it is not)
- People at parties taking apocalyptic politics: big 2020 mood
- Pierre is an embarrassment and I love him
